Bike Rack

If you want to get the most out of your bike, investing in a bike rack is a great option. Being able to take your bike with you wherever you go opens up a whole world of possibilities in terms of the areas where you can ride. There are quite a few different styles of racks on the market. One of the first things that you need to do is to determine which style is right for your needs.

The type of rack that you choose will depend largely on the type of vehicle that you have. For instance, some racks are designed for vehicles with hitches while others are designed for standard cars. Knowing which options are available is the best way to narrow down the selection to whichever rack is ideally suited for your vehicle and your needs.

Standard bike carriers are designed to fit on most cars. They typically have a series of straps that attach to the trunk of the vehicle. There are a couple of bars that project outward with attachments where you can hang one or more bikes. In most cases, there are straps that you simply attach around your bike after it is in place to help hold it securely while you drive. Some of these racks have locking mechanisms which allow you to keep your bike safe without having to remove it from your vehicle. This can be a handy option if you are traveling or need to leave your bike outdoors on your car overnight.

Hitch mount racks are designed for vehicles with hitches such as trucks or SUVs. These bike carriers have a sturdy bar that mounts to the hitch of the vehicle and projects upward. Once it gets to approximately the height of the back window, a set of two bars projects outward at a 90° angle. On these bars are attachments where you can hang one or more bikes. Again, the racks have straps that you can use to secure your bike in place.

Another option is to get a bumper-mounted bike rack. These racks are often used for RVs, although they can be used on standard vehicles as well. With this option, a flat rack projects outward from the bumper. The bikes are rolled onto the rack and positioned so they are standing up. There is typically a bar coming up out of the middle of the rack that has securing straps or other attachments that help hold the bikes in place.

Roof racks are also a great option. They allow the bikes to securely stand upright on top of your vehicle. This keeps your trunk accessible while still allowing you to take your bike with you wherever you go.
